What Are RAID Arrays?

What Are RAID Arrays?

RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) is a storage technology that combines multiple drives into one logical unit to improve performance, add redundancy, or both. Commonly used in servers, workstations, and storage systems, RAID enhances speed, fault tolerance, or storage capacity depending on the configuration.

Popular RAID Levels:

  • RAID 0: Striping — boosts speed but offers no redundancy.
  • RAID 1: Mirroring — full redundancy by duplicating data across drives.
  • RAID 5: Balanced performance and fault tolerance using parity across three or more drives.
  • RAID 10: Combines mirroring and striping for performance and protection (requires at least four drives).

IronPC systems can be factory-configured with hardware or software RAID solutions tailored to your workload—whether you're optimizing for speed, uptime, or data protection.
